1930s Vintage Wedding Dresses

1930s Vintage Wedding Dresses and their heritage

Wedding gowns from the 1930s are quite simple compared to the ones made before this time. However, if you like the retro style, you will probably like the wedding dresses from the 30s anyway.

The decade of the 1930s was a hard period of time. This was the time of the Great Depression in America, and it marked a hard financial crisis all over the world. Fashion became simple, less fancy and less elegant, since nobody had the money to buy expensive things.

Fancy wedding dresses became very rare, it was hard to find fabrics and they were very costly. Since families couldn't afford to buy a dress or to order one from the tailor, many times brides made their own dresses. The most common fabrics were silk and satin, since they were not too expensive.

The 1930s vintage wedding dresses were long, but not as full as before, due to the lack of fabrics. This gave a slim and slender look to the wedding dresses and to the bride as well. Often hats were worn instead of veils, they were also cheaper but still chic.

If you love a less fancy style and you would like to enhance the slender shape of your body, such a dress would fit you perfectly.

In the 1930s dresses were made in a different way: the train could be easily removed from the dress, so the wedding gown could be worn on other occasions as well. This was necessary because nobody could afford a dress that could be only worn once. After the trail was taken off they had a nice dress that could be worn at a party for instance.

If you have the chance to buy one of the original retro 1930s vintage wedding dresses, you will be lucky because you will have the chance to wear it on other occasions as well, not just on your wedding day.
