I always have the feeling that she was born in the wrong century. I share some of her love for the vintage era, and I always admire her collection of retro hats.
But she is not a usual collector of retro hats : she loves to wear everything that she buys, she doesn't only keep them in a closet where they can be admired.
When I was a little girl she used to dress me up in cute dresses and let me wear one of the smaller retro hats that she had.
I loved it a lot. Even thought nowadays I don't really wear hats anymore, whenever I go to my mom I try them on. It just makes me feel good.
I often feel sorry that I almost never wear them when I go outside: I just feel too weird and I think they don't really fit with my style. Sometimes I wish all women would wear hats on the street and that the retro style would be the only kind of fashion.
Original vintage hats and reproductions of vintage wedding hats are definitely stylish and classy. I like reproductions because some of the original ones can be really worn out and have signs of old age. For example it is very hard to find an original Edwardian hat in good condition. If you want to wear the vintage hats that you have and not only keep them as art, it is better to have reproductions.
Hats look great on any woman, they just don't know it. Nowadays hats aren't as popular as they used to be, which is a pity. I wish everyone would wear hats like in the beginning of the 20th century. Perhaps then I would also feel more comfortable to wear the reproductions of vintage wedding hats that my mom has.
